The Masai typically carry sticks. It is a trademark as much as the colorful shawls. The sticks have been variously used in fighting, war, herding, and ceremonial purposes. Here on the beach they were interested in selling crafts to the passing tourists. They were friendly without being too forward.
is this in Zanzibar? .. cool shot ! I saw them on the beach playing football .. without the sticks though .. ; )

Yes. Good eye. It was along the beach. We stayed at the Shooting Star. And we walked to the larger resorts where we found them. Did you experience the huge tidal changes.

Most of what they said was probably in Swahili – Jamba.
