At The Zoo
We arrived at the zoo. Simon and Garfunkel, it ain’t. It was early and we were the only group, the only people, visiting. It was pretty small and to me, pretty lame. I admit that I did not see this picture first. It was on the internet when I was doing my homework on Taif and it’s sights. Dogs!… from USA! Imagine that??!! They do not like dogs in Saudi Arabia! They are considered unclean. Cats, yes; dogs, no! But there was even a cage with cats. Meanwhile a stray cat wandered by… You’ve got to be kidding me, right?? Please don’t stick your fingers inside.

Oh my God, Victor! Surely not. Look at that poor dog! I am horrified. This is inhumane! You have to protest this. What kind of idiots live there? They are bound to know that dogs are domestic animals that are kept as pets. They are NOT zoo animals. I didn’t have much of an opinion about Saudis one way or another until I saw this photograph. Now… Get the heck out of that place. Now.

I suppose one could say this about any zoo. This, however, is a land of schizophrenia. Next to the dog cage was another cage of cats. And right beneath this cage was a stray cat wandering about the zoo. Stray cats are OK. You don’t see any dogs!.. not even on leashes. But the cats are starved and ill looking… completely ignored and abused by the lack of attention and starvation.
