There are consequences to the acts you do. Qanon, (I’d never heard of them), but they are on the rise. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia was profiled as the new face of the group. Remember her and her brethren. Their view in the name of free speech is to quash the very right we have to disagree.
“The conspiracy-theory group known as QAnon has grown in popularity in recent months. It has spread from fringe internet message boards to mainstream platforms and has become a political issue, and on Jan. 6, its adherents were among the most prominent members of the mob of President Trump’s supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol in Washington. Here is what we know about QAnon, the conspiracy theory behind it and how it started.
What is QAnon?
QAnon is a far right-wing, loosely organized network and community of believers who embrace a range of unsubstantiated beliefs. These views center on the idea that a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles—mainly consisting of what they see as elitist Democrats, politicians, journalists, entertainment moguls and other institutional figures—have long controlled much of the so-called deep state government, which they say seeks to undermine President Trump, mostly with aid of media and entertainment outlets.”
This nutjob – Taylor Greene – is an elected member of Congress. Satanic worshipping pedophiles? Who let the nuts out of the “funny farm?” Because they have supporters who believe their lies does not make Qanon moral, righteous, or factual. My only Republican friend (name withheld to protect the innocent) contends there was something wrong with the election and that dead people voted. How many? Where? What states? Dunno, but, there’s something fishy! Without any proof, the “feeling” does not hold. Proof! We need proof.
But then, the existence of God is circular reasoning as well. God exists because he does. Proof is not necessary as 2 billion will attest.
The other fact attests that the majority of the world does not share your belief. We live in a world where we by and large tolerate one another and the beliefs they hold. There is always, somewhere, conflict and tension between factions.
Religious freedom and separation of church and state are bedrock founding principles of this country. I would like our country to continue. Peaceful disagreement is fine. Facts matter. I have often wondered at the conflict between religion and evolution. The big bang theory coexists with the earth formed in seven days. Are all astronomers, satanic worshipers? The illogical assumption is that Qanon will always believe in unproven falsehoods. Right? Yes, I mean this (right) to be ambiguous.
Qanon may someday be synonymous with:
The Taliban is a brutal, fundamentalist religious group that held power over most of Afghanistan during the late 1990s. The word Taliban comes from tālib, “student” in Arabic, as the group was started by Pakistani religious school students in the mid-1990s.
Al-Qaeda, Arabic al-Qāʿidah (“the Base”), broad-based militant Islamist organization founded by Osama bin Laden in the late 1980s.
History may repeat and Nazi Germany will rise again. Or, we may rise in peace and regain our democracy and the right to peacefully disagree. Do not let the few who shout and foment insurrection succeed.
