NYT 4/26/20 – most, many Americans are far from a hospital. So what? In the time of corona you can likely survive more than 30 minutes to get to a hospital.
What’s missing? What the news fails to report, because they don’t know? The quality of the care. All hospitals are not equal i.e. a hospital is a hospital. No! No, no, no. Many, perhaps most, are not of good quality. You get the idea that nursing homes are death traps? Yup, hospitals suffer the same lament. Care is not equal. Yes, even among doctors, all is not equal. There are some good and some not quite up to snuff. Most of the brilliant minds are at the major med centers. You do the math. Yes, I, too, live in a relative rural area. I fear for the local health care should I ever be in dire need. Things are not equal. And, you can’t just show up at the best place without a connection. Thirty minutes? … from care of any sort, or from real quality care? Once upon a time, when I was a lay person… I thought a hospital was a hospital. Wrong.
If you aren’t doing something… there are governors and our fearless leader who are not. They are not ill and neither are their families. They blithely encourage you to go about your routine business and activities. The facts of the world are indisputable. Facts.
noun: fact; plural noun: facts
- a thing that is known or proved to be true
- not genuine; counterfeit.
Fake news? You trust these guys (governors MS/FL, Trump) at your peril. It is akin to war crimes. Nothing less. Trump has said open the country, go to Easter church service. He will soon deny he ever said this. He has not closed the country. His golf courses and hotels are suffering. This is criminal activity in which many more will die who might have been spared.
Fact: people are ill and dying…all over the world… and soon, around you. Maybe it’s time to heed the warning. The shelves aren’t empty for nothing. Corona is fact.
Whoa! 60 ounces? Nearly half a gallon? Do you really need one? More than one? Bathe in the stuff, and your kids too. I’m laughing…well sort of horrified. Sure, no one wants disease. It will prevent the flu? Hmmm? Here’s something to keep in mind. Staphylococcus bacteria was treatable with penicillin group antibiotics until the bacteria evolved and became resistant. That would be MRSA – methicillin resistant staph aureus. And we are about to run out of our alternative antibiotics that can kill this one. Bacteria adapt. Viruses do too. It’s why colds and flu keep changing and no single vaccine is effective. You might like them to go extinct. But it’s not happening. Sanitizer is something that is a mixed blessing. We are growing resistant microbes as we spread sanitizer around. There’s no simple answer. Sanitize? Sure, no one wants to be sick. Don’t sanitize? A reckoning? We have MRSA. This won’t be the last.
Ah! Just the next day:
